Saturday, September 16, 2-5:30pm– Foundation for Your Ideal Birth- making mindful choices that support your ideal pregnancy and birth.
Your provider, location, and preparation set the stage for your birth. Learn all about the various kinds of prenatal care providers, (and how to choose one that is right for you). We will also discuss prenatal wellness and testing, nutrition during pregnancy, and managing stress. You will leave with a blueprint for developing a mindfulness practice that you can use throughout pregnancy and beyond that is specific to your family’s unique needs. This workshop is the first in a series of five, and also perfect as a stand alone workshop for people trying to conceive, or in early pregnancy and looking to connect with other couples and learn more about the pregnant body and how to nourish it.
Saturday, September 30, 2-5:30pm– Know your Birth Options and Rights: Informed Decisions, Hospital Procedures and Medications-
We will discuss how to make informed decisions during pregnancy and birth and why it matters. We will also review routine hospital procedures and the available pain medication options in different birth settings along with the benefits and risks of each. You will leave this workshop with a blueprint for creating a birth “Plan A”, as well as tools to navigate making informed and evidence-based decisions toward your “Plan B”. You will also feel confident navigating conversations regarding your care during your birth, as well as the weeks before and after.
Our yoga practice portion will be focused on the core and navigating your changing self while welcoming your new roommate.
Saturday, October 14, 2-5:30pm– All about holistic, physiologic birth
Your idea about what birth will be like is formed before you even begin to think about your own reproductive journey, through media and stories we hear from others. While great for entertainment and shock factor, the births we see in movies aren’t necessarily accurate or beneficial. In this workshop we will learn about the stages of labor and pain management from a holistic perspective, as we delve into the physiologic process of birth. We will practice laboring and pushing positions, and have a “birth rehearsal” where we will discuss how to support a laboring person through the journey. Both pregnant partner and non pregnant partner will leave feeling more prepared emotionally, physically, and mentally for the big day. We will also chat about yoga philosophy with regard to birth and new life. This workshop will begin with a 60 minute yoga practice that is appropriate for all levels of yogi, and designed for expectant parents.
Saturday, October 28, 2-5:30pm– Exploring The Five Senses & Birth-
Your birth environment matters as much as your baby-making environment. Learn ways to create your ideal birth environment, whether you are birthing in at a hospital, birth center, or at home. We will explore ways to find comfort during birth through touch, smell, sound, and taste, visual ambiance, and of course, movement. We will discuss massage for labor, partner support, oxytocin (the love hormone), and connection. This one is a juicy workshop, bring your partner, if you have one. Our yoga practice will incorporate some partner yoga poses that can be helpful for finding relief and connection during pregnancy as well as helpful birthing poses that keep your partner involved and grounded. This will be beneficial for all three of you.
Saturday, November 11, 2-6pm– Preparing for your Fourth Trimester-
Much thought and planning goes into the birth of your new baby, rightfully so, but the time after baby also demands some thought and planning. In this workshop, we will learn all about breastfeeding and infant care, and nutrition for the optimal care of your family following the life-changing event of birth. You will leave this workshop with a blueprint for creating a postpartum plan, including meal preparation, and optimizing your baby-shower gift registry or wish list to create the best possible transition into parenthood. You will feel more confident and knowledgeable about caring for and soothing your baby and what common things to look for with regard to your new tiny human.
This workshop series is taught by Sarah Romero, who is a certified birth and postpartum doula (DTI), and an E-RYT 200 with Yoga Alliance. Learn more about her here.
